Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 27 April 2024
It’s still cold, very cold and with Caerphilly having a Food and Drink Festival, I’m off to Newport on the 50A. The wind was cutting and the rain was cold. It was raining when I arrived in Newport but The John Wallace Linton was warm and toasty.
The review
Pure UBU - Purity Brewing - 4.5% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty, with a hint of sweet fruity and lingering bitter. Long tasty bitter finish #ale #beer #bier
3.3/5. Cold easterly wind with steady light rain. Not very springlike. Good for my Potatoes but not really for me. Need warmer weather.
The review
Jemima’s Pitchfolk - Glamorgan Brewery - 4.5%. B+ and a bit, this may be just passing its best but is still a tidy Pint. Taffy too #ale #beer #bier
3.3/5. It’s great when you can discuss Potato varieties with bar staff and you find out they are against lard. Solid.
So where to go next. With the rain still falling, why not try the Carpenters again.
The good news is that I was immediately on to the WiFi with speeds between Half and Full Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC). They had Cwtch on Cask.
The review
Cwtch - Tiny Rebel - 4.6% ABV. B+ and a bit, going over I think but still a quality brew. Malty, fruity and hoppy with a gentle bitter finish #ale #beer #bier.
3.3/5. In the all new Carpenter’s where I can now get on the WiFi. Feeling very Saturday morning and wishing the rain would stop.
12:00 came around an I moved onto The Lamb, it was still raining.
And a new unique for Untappd.
The review
Anthem - St Austell - 3.8% ABV. B+ and a bit, maybe just on the turn. Malty, fruity, hoppy and bitter. Long gently bitter finish #ale #beer #bier
3.3/5. The rain was forecast to have stopped but it shows no sign. In The Lamb 🇺🇦 #Newport moving onto Plan B++
I needed some chips so up the hill to the Harbour Fishbar.
Post chips and walk down the hill, I gave up. Tesco Express for tea food and caught the bus home. Unsurprisingly I had a bit of a snooze when I got home. Weird Dad now next week.
