Beers Of The Beano - Saturday 01 February 2025

The 07:00 bus with a very pleasant driver in to Newport for a much needed Saturday Beano. Costa to start.

View of the Costa Coffee outside Newport Railway Station.

Getting light in the mornings now

Post Cappuccino and Bacon Roll it was on to The John Wallace Linton, where there were projector screens all over. For the Riugby no doubt.

Just after they opened.

Welsh Pale was the first, no picture but it’s in the following video.

Then the cask version of Citra came on. Very positive.

A pulled pint of Citra from Oakham Ales in front of it's Hand Pump and Pump Clip.

£1.69 a Pint

The review

Citra - Oakham Ales - 4.2% ABV. B+ and a bit and a touch. Just on and it’s a refreshing, citrus little wonder #ale #beer #bier

3.4/5. A Fine Ale that makes everything seem right and only £1.69 a Pint. Here’s to a better February. Superior Beano.

Some cash for the Chips later and onto The Pen and Wig.

It’s Grey but it’s Dry.

Saw their cask selection Facebook the night before. Starting with.

A pulled Pint of Flo Rider from The Glamorgan Brewery in front of it's Hand Pump and Pump Clip.

A Charity Beer

The review

Flo Rider - Glamorgan Brewery - 4.8% ABV. B+ and a bit, tropical, hoppy with a touch too much sweetness. Charity beer #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. In aid of Velindre Hospital, Cardiff. There hints of fruit, bitterness and spice in the finish. Nice to see a non reduced alcohol beer.

A pulled Pint of Black Flower from Hop Union in front of it's Hand Pump and Pump Clip.

The Vanilla works well

The review

Black Flower - Hop Union - 4.6% ABV. B+ and a bit, roasty, bitter and vanilla. Lingering bitter, coffee and roasty finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. You know, this really is rather good and actually refreshing. Even if it’s February and still grey and cold. Awaiting Spring.

The Chips

Because CAMRA

The review

Stay Wild Maindee - Weird Dad - 4.3% ABV. B+ and a bit, malty, hoppy with a sweet fruitiness. Rather pleasing with a gentle fruity, bitter finish #ale #beer #bier

3.3/5. Drunk where it’s brewed and I am very happy with that. Everyone is talking about February and that it will be better than January.

A poured can of Roobarb and Custard from Yonder

It’s an age thing

The review

Roobarb and Custard - Yonder - 7.5% ABV. B++, vanilla on the nose. Fruity, vanilla and confectionery in the body with tingly fruity finish #ale #beer #bier

3.5/5. If you are old enough to remember then you will love this. Certainly makes up for the semi rubbish weather. Tidy Brew.

A poured can of People, Money, Space, Time from Verdant

Saturday afternoon hazy

The review

People, Money, Space, Time - Verdant - 3.4% ABV. B++, fruity on the nose. Malty, hoppy with a slightly sweet fruity body. Bitter, fruity and slightly spicy finish #ale #beer #bier
